How do I get a well in Pembroke?

  1. The first step is to call a licensed well driller to inspect your property and determine the ideal location for a well.

  2. Get a plot plan of your property which shows the location of property lines, septic systems, buildings and the proposed well location.

  3. Wells must be at least 100 feet from any septic system.

  4. Obtain a well installation permit from the Board of Health and Department of public works.

  5. Schedule a time for the well driller to install the well

  6. With the well installed the well driller must submit a well completion form and an “as-built” drawing showing the exact location of the well.

  7. A water sample has to be tested. Whether the well is for irrigation or a house water supply the water has to be potable.

  8. Notify the DPW to inspect for cross connections and backflow.

  9. Once a well number is issued you are required to post the well number so that it is visible from the street.

  10. You can now use your well.
